So, I just released my first single officially, and I’m pretty excited about it. But I’ll be honest. If excitement is not managed properly, it could easily turn into anxiety. It’s so easy to go from excitement about people’s great responses to being anxious about making sure you always do what you can to make people respond the way you want them to.

It’s normal and human, but that doesn’t mean it is not meant to be tamed by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Lord gave me a great visual this week to keep it all in perspective. He showed me that I’m not building the brand of “Janice Gaines.” I’m simply a franchisee of the brand of Jesus Christ. And I don’t want to be one of those rogue franchisees doing my own thing against the policies of the creator of the brand that I’ve willingly bought into. Let’s hold each other accountable, yes?

The anticipated debut single from emerging gospel artist Janice Gaines, [...]

The anticipated debut single from emerging gospel artist Janice Gaines, titled “One Day,” heads to radio and online outlets today, and is currently streaming online at OneDayMusic.com. The single will be available for download on iTunes and Amazon.com on May 15, 2012.

On “One Day,” Janice Gaines offers a heartwarming and familiar chorus—simple enough for everyone to sing along to—while delivering a vocal performance as beautiful and pure as the eternal world about which she is singing.

“One day, we’ll look back on this life from Heaven,” shares Gaines. “We’ll look at all that we went through down here, and we’ll say ‘Is that it? Is that what we went through?’ And we’ll say that it’s fine with us—that everything God allowed was okay. And it will be beautiful.”

Janice Gaines wrote the familiar refrain of “One Day,” and simply sang it around the house to encourage herself, until she took it to writing partners Alvin Love III and Dwan Hill. The trio completed the song, which was produced by Hill (for Crystal City, Inc.) and Love. The result is a refreshing gospel anthem that stands out and resonates with every heart.

“One Day,” is more than just a song—it’s a musical invitation to rest in the hope of an eternal life void of trials, pain or sorrow. “It’s about taking on the Lord’s perspective, from Heaven,” adds Gaines, “instead of resting in our own understanding.”

I just got back home from leading worship at a prayer conference for Stonecroft Ministries. It was at their retreat center in Kansas City, and I had such a great time!

I had no idea God was arresting me to pull Leto Himself; I thought I was just going to minister as usual. The ladies were so sweet and the grounds were so beautiful, that I felt like I had registered for the conference as an attendee. It was a great time.

Now, I’m back home, ready to finish all that needs to be done so you guys can hear my new single One Day! Everything is coming together so well. Soon, you’ll be able to request it at your local radio station! I’ll keep you posted….

Last week, I was blessed to be a part of the Johnson Ferry Baptist Church Women’s Ministry’s local mission trip. They have partnered with the Atlanta Union Mission to serve the ladies that commit to being a part of the rehabilitation program/facility called My Sister’s House.

They lead a weekly Bible study there, and during the Spring, they conduct a women’s conference on the grounds of My Sister’s House. I was so impressed with how things went. It’s definitely long down as one of my favorite times leading worship. The women were so engaged in the songs and their lyrics. I’ve never seen people so excited about their heritage in Jesus. It refreshed me like you’ll never know. I’m going forward with those women in my mind wherever I go.

Have you all seen that Febreze commercial where they put [...]

Have you all seen that Febreze commercial where they put blindfolded people in the filthiest rooms you’ve ever seen but spray Febreze to make it smell good? When asked where they think they are, the people always name someplace wonderful based on the fragrance of the Febreze. But when they take the blindfolds off of them, they realize they are not only not in a clean environment, but they are in an absolute disgusting environment! And to think, they were willing to get comfortable in that gross space not knowing their true environment.

I don’t want to be fooled like that. Many things this world offers really can trick you into thinking that this is really the place to be. In actuality, Heaven is where we are supposed to be, and we pine for it whether we realize it or not. Plus, I don’t want Jesus to come back, and, in light of how glorious He is, I have to be embarrassed because I was trying to hold on to this filthy, cramped earth, to whose filth I allowed myself to be blinded. I’m just sayin’.

It’s a Friday night before a Women of Faith One [...]

It’s a Friday night before a Women of Faith One Day event, and I find myself reading Isaiah 43:1-7. The first verse has captured my attention: “But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.”

The speaker is God, and He is speaking to the nation of Israel that had been taken captive by Babylon. He’s reassuring them that, in spite of their turning from Him through disobeying Him and having other gods and stuff, He still has a plan for them. In other words, don’t be afraid, because I don’t plan to leave you here.

And the cool thing is, He starts addressing them in this statement by defining who HE is to THEM. He claims to be the one who created AND formed them. Now, this is what gave me pause. I thought, Lord, I know the simple difference between creating and forming, but I kind of need a picture. This is what the Lord gave me, and it’s fitting for the season I’m in:

When I sit down with my brothers (in Christ) Dwan Hill and Alvin Love, III, to write a song, we are more or less using the creativity God has given us to, as much as humanly possible, create something out of nothing. We know in general what we want the song to sound like and what we want its purpose to be.

Now, when it’s time to actually produce the song, I believe we’re doing more “forming.” And in this process, we literally oversee every detail of the song. Even the so-called trivial decisions are intentional. By the time a song has been produced, each layer has been formed, one upon the other, to yield an intended result.

The cool thing is that this is what God has done with each of us. He created humanity because He wanted us and wanted us for a certain purpose. But then, He formed each of us in our mother’s wombs (Psalm 139:13 says so!), detail upon detail. Nothing about us went undecided by God.

Therefore, we should have no fear. Because anyone who has spent this much time on us MUST have a plan that’s worth our while. Be encouraged, guys!

The Lord just gave me a song whose message is all about His love for us NO MATTER WHAT! So, if you’re going through a tough time right now–even a tough time that you’ve caused–know that we can NEVER be separated from His love. The Bible says so in Romans chapter eight, verses thirty-eight and thirty-nine (Rom 8:38-39). And because He loves us, we can MORE than conquer ANYthing, like it says in verse 37.

Be encouraged! Love y’all!
